CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A startling discovery inside a house in the West Ridge neighborhood has prompted a probe by police.

Inside the basement of a home in the 2800 block of W. Fitch, Chicago Police describe as possible human remains.

"It’s kind of scary honestly…not knowing that there’s a person possibly dead in the house and not knowing that that’s happening. I walk past this house so many times, and I wouldn’t have known at all,” a neighbor told CBS-2.

The discovery was reportedly made by relatives of a recently deceased person who were cleaning out the hall.

It’s unclear who they belong to. Investigations are underway.

According to CBS-2, investigators with the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office removed an intact body from the home at around 5:30 p.m.
