CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The deadline is just a couple of days away for people who’ve been putting off renewing their Illinois license plate stickers.

The Illinois Secretary of State’s Office had given motorists an extension to Nov. 1, which is this Sunday, to renew expired license plate stickers. Spokesman Henry Haupt said there could be as many as a million stickers that are overdue for renewal.

He said, however, one way to easily take care of it is by going to www.cyberdriveillinois.com.

"We have seen a significant increase in online renewals for license plate stickers. Since June 1 through the present, we’ve had 1.5 million people renewed their license plate stickers online which is almost double that same timeframe last year," he said.

Haupt said to renew your sticker online, you'll need your vehicle registration card or past renewal notice that contains their Registration ID and PINs. If motorists do not have a renewal notice or current registration card, they should call the Public Inquiry Division at 800-252-8980.

If you’ve been putting off renewing your driver’s license, Haupt said that deadline extension remains Feb. 1.

"Winter is approaching so we continue to look at ways to serve the public, perhaps expanding access for online renewals for driver’s licenses and ID cards and we have not ruled out the possibility of another extension," he said.
