The death of a 9-year-old boy who was attacked at a CTA station on the Near West Side earlier this month has been ruled a homicide, officials said.

Elijah Flores was pronounced dead Saturday afternoon at Lurie Children's Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office. An autopsy found Elijah died of multiple blunt force injuries to the head from falling down stairs during the attack.

Police said he was captured on surveillance video exiting a Green Line train around 11:15 a.m. Aug. 10 with Jonah Soria, 22, who was arguing with two other men at the Clinton station, 540 W. Lake St.

During the altercation, the two men chased Soria and Elijah from the platform. Soria then grabbed Elijah, "as he was not keeping up," according to a police report.

One of the two men ultimately hit Soria in the back with an object, causing him and Elijah to tumble down a flight of stairs, police said. Soria landed on top of Elijah, who was knocked out and suffered a skull fracture.

Elijah's death was ruled a homicide on Tuesday. No one has been arrested.
