CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Three people died Friday morning after being found unresponsive in a building in the Edgewater neighborhood.

At the moment, authorities are not sure what happened.

The fire department was called after the man and two women were found unresponsive in the building on the 5800 block of North Broadway.

Fire Department spokesman Larry Merritt said the man was dead. The women were transported to a hospital where they died. The department called a Level One Hazmat and eventually ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning. It was determined there was no threat to anyone else in the building.

“Crews took readings. There were no high levels of CO,” Merritt said.

Asked if it's possible this was something like exposure to fentanyl, he said he doesn’t want to guess, but it’s possible.

They’ll wait for the autopsies to determine the cause of death, Merritt said.
