DEKALB (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The DeKalb City Clerk said he's standing by his comments about local police after a flurry of online criticism.
Sasha Cohen has been a frequent and outspoken critic of law enforcement and this past week after recent arrests related to a large seizure of drugs and weapons, one of the biggest in DeKalb police history, Cohen posted an expletive about police on Facebook.
He told the DeKalb Daily Chronicle he stands behind his words.
Cohen said the DeKalb Police Department is a terror organization and said it's his responsibility to call them out even when it's controversial. There has been harsh criticism of his comments, but also support.
Cohen said the police department is not the only way to serve justice, and we must look beyond outdated norms.
DeKalb city leaders have issued criticism of their own in the past over the clerk, calling him out on a string of absences at public meetings, with some aldermen expressing concerns that Cohen was violating state law.
