DEKALB (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - DeKalb police said they’ve arrested a teenage shooting suspect and found he was using a court-ordered ankle bracelet for a unique purpose.

DeKalb police said the 17-year old suspect had been ordered to wear a home monitoring ankle bracelet by a Cook County judge for another matter, but when he was arrested Friday for a shooting last week, he allegedly used the ankle monitor as a gun holster.

Police said the gun found on him was loaded and had an extended magazine with 20 rounds of ammo. DeKalb police said that gun was not the one the suspect is alleged to have used in shooting a woman in an apartment during an argument. The woman suffered a non-life-threatening bullet wound.

The juvenile remains in custody at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center.
