Delivery driver beaten, robbed of 3 luxury cars at Des Plaines dealership

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A car delivery driver is recovering from serious injuries Friday morning, after he was beaten, robbed, and left in the snow at a northwest suburban car lot early Thursday.

The driver was delivering luxury cars to the Jidd Motors car lot, located at 855 Rand Rd. in Des Plaines, around 1 a.m. Thursday when a group of robbers attacked him and carjacked three vehicles.

According to police, officers were called to the scene for a disturbance and found a man lying in a snow bank with serious injuries to his wrist and leg. The Des Plaines Fire Department was called to provide care to the victim, who was transported to the hospital for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Surveillance video shows the driver was attacked by at least four people, who punched and kicked the man repeatedly before he was left crawling in a snow bank.

Police said the attackers demanded keys to cars. The four offenders stole the three luxury vehicles, and fled the scene.

Jidd Motors owner Adam Jidd told CBS 2 the delivery driver was seriously injured.

“So I know he broke his legs, his hip, his arm,” Jidd said. “He’s in the hospital and went through a surgery yesterday. He’s going through another surgery this morning.”

The robbers are also suspected of breaking into the Jidd Motors showroom several blocks away, at 1313 Rand Rd.

“They jumped through the fence. They went all the way to the back door – came through the back door – trying to grab some of the keys; some of the cars,” Jidd said. “They couldn’t go anywhere.”

Surveillance video showed a burglar busting through a window and running to let the rest of the crew in through a garage door. There was a scramble to find keys to any of the luxury cars, but they were unsuccessful.

Jidd told CBS 2 he plans on hiring armed security to work overnight.

An investigation into both incidents is ongoing. No arrests had been made.
