(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- It appears a growing number of people are passing more than turkey at their Thanksgiving celebrations.
Matthew Brewer is one of the founders of the Grasshopper Club marijuana dispensaries in the South Loop and Logan Square communities.
He says the sales of recreational marijuana usually double on the day before Thanksgiving.
“There’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday and Giving Tuesday. In the cannabis industry, we refer to the Wednesday before Thanksgiving as Green Wednesday,” Brewer said.
There are several reasons why marijuana demand grows at this time of year. One is that cannabis can help ease the stress around the holiday, he said. Another is that people may feel more comfortable using THC-infused products during extended breaks from work.
People also may feel comfortable sharing cannabis at holiday gatherings, Brewer said.
