The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory until 11 a.m. for Cook, DuPage, Lake and McHenry counties in Illinois and Porter and Lake counties in Indiana.
Areas with dense fog can reduce visibility to one quarter mile or less at times, according to the weather service.
Drivers were encouraged to slow down, use their headlights, and leave plenty of distance ahead of them.
