(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – One teen was charged and another faces potential charges after the pair allegedly scuffled with two Lake County Illinois deputies over the weekend.
The melee unfolded around 3:30 p.m. Sunday after two sheriff’s officers responded to a call of a domestic battery in unincorporated Antioch, officials said. As the deputies attempted to take a 17-year-old boy into custody for allegedly striking a family member, a 17-year-old girl interfered and grabbed at one of the deputy’s belt and baton, according to a news release.
The teen boy then allegedly bit the arm of the other deputy and broke free before being tackled, police said.
“After being tackled, the boy continued resisting and was able to punch the deputy who tackled him in the face two times,” the news release from the sheriff’s office said.
Even after the boy was handcuffed, he managed to kick one of the deputies in the neck, officials said.
In juvenile court, the teen boy faces charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting arrest and causing injury and aggravated domestic battery. Juvenile-court petitions are pending on the girl, officials said.
“Fortunately, our deputies were okay, and neither of the offenders were injured,” Lake County Deputy Chief Chris Covelli tells WBBM Newsradio.
