(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A developer has withdrawn plans to build an industrial park in north suburban Lake County — to the relief of hundreds of area residents.
Bridge Industrial had planned to develop the 101-acre Baxter Healthcare Corporation site located north of Lake Cook Road and west of the Tri-State Tollway.
It was petitioning the Village of Deerfield to annex and redevelop the property.
But residents of Riverwoods — the Thorngate subdivision, most specifically, directly across the street from the site — were strongly against the proposal.
More than 5,400 people had signed an online petition in opposition. One person commented on the Change.org petition that the environmental impact of such a development would be “a calamity.”
A traffic consultant hired by Bridge Industrial said at a public meeting last month an estimated 300 trucks would be in and out of the industrial park every day.
Residents said in the strongest terms that they did not want the noise, pollution and traffic that would disrupt their current way of life.
Bridge Industrial withdrew its proposal Wednesday, one day before the Deerfield Plan Commission was planning to stage a public hearing on it.
