(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — City officials gathered for what was being called “the greatest day on the West Side” on Saturday.
Mayor Brandon Johnson, Ald Jason Ervin (28th), as well as the commissioners from the Chicago Department of Planning and the Chicago Department of Housing gathered in the rain to announce a new residential, recreational and commercial development in East Garfield Park.
The project, called Harvey Homes II, will bring housing, restaurants and recreational space to the corner of South Homan Avenue and West Jackson Boulevard.
The housing will feature one to three bedroom units, resident parking, a children’s play area, laundry facilities, fitness center, and a rooftop terrace.
Three restaurants have already agreed to open a location in the multi-million dollar development. Those restaurants are The Soul Food Lounge, Oooh Wee It Is, and Breakfast and Lunch Nook.
Work on the project is projected to begin in the summer of 2025 and completed in 2026.
