CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A filmmaker who grew up in Chicago's northwest suburbs is showcasing his latest work.
Greg Glienna is the director and co-writer of "The Road Dog," which was recently shown at Park Ridge's iconic Pickwick Theater.
Glienna grew up in Park Ridge, and part of the movie was filmed there.
"The Road Dog" is a drama/comedy starring Doug Stanhope as an alcoholic standup comedian who reconnects with the son he's never known.
While Glienna said Stanhope and the rest of the cast are great, his advice for aspiring filmmakers is, "the script, the script," Glienna told WBBM in a recent phone interview.
"People don't know that. They think it's the director or the actors, it's the writing! Whether it's good or bad, it all comes down to the script," Glienna said.
Despite saying that, Glienna has nothing but praise for Stanhope, the film's star.
"He is a wonderful actor. He's a great comedian, but he's just a really, really good actor. Which is nice. I've directed Academy Award winning actors and he's as good as any of them," Glienna said.
After playing in theaters, "The Road Dog" will be available on cable, all digital platforms and DVD on October 6.
