A Chicago man is in hot water over a phony bomb threat to a Disney cruise ship.
20-year-old Daquan Smith is charged with interstate transmission of a threat and if convicted, could spend five years behind bars.
Prosecutors say in early December, Smith called Disney Cruise Line and said “I’m letting you guys know now, I have a bomb on the boat, and I want to blow it up.”
Smith is accused of making that call from Chicago, and referencing a cruise ship coming from the Bahamas.
Court documents show Smith admitted to making the threat out of frustration over numerous spam calls he’d been receiving from Disney Cruise Line.
His attorney is now calling for that admission to be thrown out, and for Smith’s trial to be moved from Florida to Illinois.
Another hearing is set for next month.
