(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 24-year-old West Chicago woman has died after the car she was riding in plunged into a pond in Aurora on Monday evening.

Aurora Police say it was about 7 p.m. when a vehicle ended up submerged in a pond near Bilter Road, west of DuPage Parkway.

Police say the driver managed to swim to shore, but his 24-year-old passenger couldn't get out of the vehicle.

Four Aurora police officers tried to help her but could not get into the vehicle. The Aurora Fire Department's water rescue team was able to get the woman out.

Police say another car involved in all this hit a tree. Both drivers were stable when they were taken to a hospital.

None of the first responders were injured.

Aurora Police say their crash reconstruction team is using drone technology to create a 3-D digital map of the scene.
