DIXMOOR, Ill. (WBBN NEWSRADIO) -- After years of water main breaks, and struggles to maintain a healthy water supply, south suburban Dixmoor is finally getting some good news.
The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency announced $10 million in funding will be given to the village for construction improvements to rehabilitate the water distribution system, and restore reliable potable water within the Village.
An additional $4 million in funding is being provided to the Village for lead service line replacement.
Dixmoor Mayor Fitzgerald Roberts tells WBBM that village officials have been working on this with the state for a long time.
"Ever since the first break we had on October 2021, I've been talking to them and they've been hearing our plead," he said. "They've been right there with us."
Roberts said the city's water struggles have been a challenge for the entire community, including his own family.
"We didn't go on vacation or nothing until this water issue was straight. We stayed right here," he said. "They didn't have water. I didn't have water, so we were all in that boat together making it work. With the help of Good, He's seeing us through and everything is moving forward."
