CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Broadcast news crews and technicians Sunday were prowling the otherwise pretty empty main floor of the United Center, where the headline action of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) will take place through Thursday.

They were describing or setting the stage for the coming activities. Each of the four nights will have a different Theme. Tonight’s is: ''For the People.' It's the night Democrats will honor President Joe Biden, and he will give the keynote speech that night. We'll also hear from Chicago's own Mayor Brandon Johnson.

Tuesday's theme is "A Bold Vision for America's Future." Party officials say that evening will contrast what they describe as Donald Trump's belief that America's best days are in the past with Kamala Harris and Tim Walz who say the best days are ahead.

Wednesday's theme is "A Fight for our Freedoms" and Thursday, when Vice-President Kamala Harris accepts her party's nomination, the theme is "For Our Future." That will bring this convention to a close.

At the United Center, the crews were doing sound checks.  And, reporters were on the convention floor recording preview stories.

DNC officials confirmed many of their top level speakers for the four days of the convention.

Tonight, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is expected to give a welcome address to the convention attendees. He’s also expected to describe how Democratic officials are on the frontlines in the fight for freedoms.

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden are scheduled to speak tonight as well, with Democrats expected to pay tribute to the president as he passes the torch to Harris.

Governor JB Pritzker, who had a lot to do with the convention coming to Chicago, is scheduled to speak to the delegates on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz will give his acceptance speech. Harris' acceptance speech will be on Thursday night.

Among the other major speakers are: former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries.
