(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An ICU doctor at Advocate Children’s Hospital in Park Ridge says she's hoping to empower young patients of color through hair care kits tailored to different hair textures.
Dr. Nekaiya Jacobs said when she noticed that the hair kits being given to patients weren't fully inclusive, she was inspired to create her own version.
"They're great for people with waves or kinks or coils, braided hair types as well as locks, like myself,” she said.
Some of the items in the kits include a brush, curl enhancer, and shampoo and conditioner.
Jacobs says the hair care kits are her "love letter" to the field of medicine.
“I think many providers are starting to see the value in that,” she said.
