DOLTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard lost her bid for re-election.

Henyard went live on social media on election day.

“I’m going to come in by a landslide,” she said.

It didn’t turn out that way. Trustee Jason House defeated Henyard. Unofficial Cook County results revealed Henyard had only 12 percent of the vote, while House had 88 percent.

House’s campaign slogan was “clean house.”

“The people have said we’re fed up. They expect more, and they’re going to expect more from this administration,” House told CBS News Chicago.

Henyard’s tenure has been controversial. She’s battled with trustees and has been under federal investigation.

A few weeks ago, former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot released the findings of an investigation into the finances of the Village of Dolton under Mayor Tiffany Henyard.

Lightfoot noted excessive spending – this included $775,000 in 2023, $200,000 on Amazon, more than $100,000 on travel, including “economic development” trips to Las Vegas.

Lightfoot, a former federal prosecutor, was hired by village trustees to shed light on the spending. Her investigation was actually hindered by a village Freedom of Information officer who was ultimately fired by village trustees, who seized power from Henyard last year.
