(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — CNN Chairman and CEO Chris Licht informed CNN employees that the network fired longtime host Don Lemon on Monday.

The news came less than two hours after Fox News announced that Tucker Carlson was done at that network.

Lemon confirmed the news on Twitter and said he was informed Monday morning by his agent that he had been “terminated by CNN.”

“After 17 years at CNN I would have thought that someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly,” he posted. “At no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network.”

In February, Lemon caused a controversy when he called Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley past her prime on “CNN This Morning.”

“When a woman is considered to be in her prime — in her 20s, 30s and maybe her 40s,” he said on the show.

In his message to colleagues, Licht said they are committed to the success of “CNN This Morning,” which has been on the air for nearly six months. He said Lemon will “forever be a part of the CNN family.”

Lemon called his colleagues the “most talented journalists in the business” and wished them the best.
