(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in west suburban Downers Grove, is cleaning up after a car crash, fire and major power outage Monday morning.
Downers Grove fire officials said it happened around 6:15 a.m. A vehicle struck a pole that had a transformer on top, which triggered a fire that damaged the roof of the church.
“It’s heartbreaking,” Jonathan Vanwyngaarden told CBS 2.
Vanwyngaarden said his son attends preschool at the church, and he added that his son’s teacher said “pretty much everything in her classroom was gone.”
The incident also left approximately 130,000 ComEd customers without power for quite some time.
There’s been no word on any injuries.
