CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Drive-in theaters, a popular family destination during COVID-19, are making preparations for reopening.
Drive-in movie theaters saw a pandemic resurgence, through both pop-ups throughout the Chicago area and established venues, and that’s continuing.
The Harvest Moon Drive-in in Gibson City - a bit of a road trip from Chicago - is reopening this week. This will be the theater's 67th year in operation.
“It’s gonna be a nice mixture of new movies, old movies, live music events, on-screen music events, sporting events and a bunch of other stuff we’ve never even done before, so it's going to be a little crazy this year, but it's going to be a lot of fun," said General manager Ben Harroun during a Facebook Live post.
Closer to home, the McHenry Outdoor Theater is reopening at the end of next month. Others may be soon to follow.
