(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A 50-year old Zion motorist ran into the back of a county police car in the northern suburbs while drunk, authorities say.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office says one of its deputies had pulled over a car Sunday night at Lewis Avenue and Wadsworth Road in Beach Park when the deputy’s squad was struck from behind by a Chevy pick-up truck.

The deputy was not injured and got out to check out what happened. The officer allegedly smelled alcohol on driver Jesus Garcia.

Garcia was charged with driving under the influence, resisting arrest, violating Scott’s Law and driving without  proof of insurance.

He was later released on $35,000 bond, officials said.
