CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - One person was critically hurt Tuesday night after a car rear-ended a semi on the Outbound Dan Ryan Expressway.
Illinois State Police said the crash occurred at around 8:40 p.m. in the outbound lanes of the Dan Ryan near 26th Street, close to where the express and local lanes split. A white Jeep, driving at a high rate of speed, slammed into the back of a semi-tractor trailer. The Jeep subsequently burst into flames, ISP said.
The semi driver pulled the driver of the Jeep out of the burning car. The Chicago Fire Department said the person was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
The driver of the semi was uninjured.
All outbound lanes were closed for over an hour, as first responders investigated the crash and cleaned the fuel spill from the truck.
