CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A 31-year-old man died Thursday after he slammed his vehicle into the shoulder of DuSable Lake Shore Drive in the early morning hours.
Chicago police said the accident occurred shortly after 3 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Division Street, close to the Oak Street curve.
The driver was ejected after his vehicle crashed into the wall. He was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead, police said.
A male passenger was also hurt, suffering minor injuries. He also was sent to Northwestern and was described to be in good condition.
Cleanup crews and police investigatorshad a portion of southbound DLSD completely shutdown, with traffic being diverted at North Avenue.
Police reopened DuSable Lake Shore Drive shortly after 7:30 a.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but CPD said no citations are pending.
Overnight, a fresh coating of snow fell in the Chicago area, prompting the National Weather Service to tweet this morning that drivers needed to be cautious and mindful of road conditions.
