CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police have accused a local woman of driving under the influence during a fatal hit-and-run that took place in October in Lincoln Square.
Kali Rynearson, 30, who lives in North Center, faces one felony count of aggravated DUI that led to the death of 59-year-old Donald Heggemann.
Heggemann, an Edgewater resident, was riding in the bike lane on North Damen Avenue when he was hit by a Volvo sedan, according to Chicago police.
Rynearson’s blood alcohol concentration was more than twice the legal limit, officials said.
Witnesses waved down a passing police car and officers were able to pull over the car that had driven away, according to a police report. Police said she drove away from the scene and failed to come to a complete stop at three stop signs before they were able to pull her over.
In addition to the felony charge, she has been issued six traffic citations stemming from that October evening.
She was released from custody and will next appear in court on Tuesday.
The city has averaged about five cyclist-involved crashes per day, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
