(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — New details have emerged about the school bus driver that fatally struck a child in Chicago's south suburbs in January.
Park Forest police said the driver didn't have a valid license when they struck and killed 7-year-old Connor Kasmarski on Jan. 20.
In fact, their commercial driver's license and school bus endorsement had been canceled weeks before the accident for failing to provide proof of a medical exam.
Officials said the second grader was running alongside the bus after being dropped off from Mohawk Primary Center when he moved into the street.
An investigation also revealed the driver was distracted by an electronic device and didn't notice the child was hit.
They're now charged with a misdemeanor for operating a commercial vehicle with a canceled license.
