CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An Uber driver came to the rescue of a drive-by shooting victim near Bronzeville on Chicago's South Side late Tuesday night.
Police said the shooting happened in the Bronzeville neighborhood shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night. Three men were in a silver Chevy Malibu when a car pulled alongside them in the 2900 block of South Federal Street. Someone inside that car fired shots. A 21-year old male passenger in the Malibu was hit several times, police said.
The driver of the Malibu rushed to take the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but crashed into a Jeep Wrangler in the 1000 block of South Clark Street, police said.
A passing Uber driver took the wounded man and the Malibu driver to the hospital, where the 21-year-old shooting victim was in critical condition.
The driver of the Malibu was in fair condition at the same hospital, receiving treatment for a leg injury he received in the crash, police said. The third person in the car refused medical treatment.
