EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- An SUV struck several parked hours and two houses in East Chicago, police say.

The houses were located at 4830 and 4828 Indianapolis Blvd. Officers located the damaged vehicles as well. Witnesses said the driver attempted to flee the scene, according to East Chicago Police.

Officers approached the man and "could immediately smell a strong odor of intoxication emitting from his breath". Police said his eyes were bloodshot, and his pants were also soiled.

The man told police he didn't have a driver's license when prompted for it. The suspect refused to take a field sobriety test after being asked several times, and he refused a breathalyzer test, police said.

He was arrested for the operation of a motor vehicle by an unlicensed driver and operating a vehicle while Intoxicated.
