CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - If you’re looking for a place to celebrate and honor Black History Month, the DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center on the South Side is a must-see destination.

During this year’s Black History Month, WBBM is partnering with the DuSable Black History Museum to put a spotlight on Chicago’s rich Black history.

“Black History Month is a time that was created to reflect on the history and the gains and then kind of center yourself for what else needs to be done…Where do we go next? That’s the purpose of Black History Month,” says Dr. Kim L. Dulaney, the DuSable Museum's vice president of education and programs.

Dulaney said the museum’s education theme this year is “Winning: Visions of victory.”

“We’re celebrating Black history for real, for real, looking at all of the resistance and resilience and how we’ve been able to stay alive and make great gains and make great progress,” Dulaney adds.

The museum, Dulaney says, was designed to capture the evolving nature of history.

“We look at what has happened and then look at the trends and see what’s happening now and, again, where we’re going,” Dulaney says.

She tells WBBM, no matter your race or ethnicity, everyone owns a stake in Black history.

“Black history is American history. American history is Black history too,” says Dulaney.
