East Chicago police ask for help in solving two murders from 2021

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Police in East Chicago, Indiana are asking the public’s help in solving two murders that occurred in 2021.

The first case is the murder of 32-year-old Eric Douglas, who was shot to death on Christmas Eve outside a bar called Ralo's.

“Officers go on scene, and the officers can see that there are people inside because it's a glass door, glass windows. They pull the shades and nobody answers the door,” Police Chief Jose Rivera tells WBBM Newsradio.

Police were never able to interview a half-dozen witnesses, he said.

Both the shooter and victim had been in the bar and were seen on grainy surveillance video that police obtained with a search warrant.

The second unsolved case is the murder of Anjelica Casares, shot to death in August with an AK-47 in a duplex townhome on Fern Street.  The gun was left behind.

"This one is real disturbing just because the sheer act of violence,” Rivera said.

Police think there was a robbery or a drug deal taking place. Shots were fired from inside and outside the unit.

Rivera asks anyone with information to contact police.
