EAST CHICAGO, IND. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A fifth grade teacher at St. Stanislaus School in East Chicago has been arrested after allegedly saying she wanted to kill students and that she had made a list.
The teacher had been in a meeting with a counsellor and two students and is alleged to have made comments about wanting to kill students and some of her family members.
One of the students that was there spoke to CBS 2 with her father’s permission.
"She said that she wanted to kill her middle school friends, her high school friends, and half of her family," Portia Jones said.
The teacher’s alleged comments were reported to the principal. The teacher was called to the office and is alleged to have admitted to the “kill list.” She was sent home, which angered some parents.
"They should have never let her walk out them doors," said Quiannis Jones, Portia's father. "They should have called the police right then and there."
The teacher’s alleged comments were later reported to police and she was arrested at her home.
The school decided to switch to e-learning today. A statement from the school said "The well-being and safety of our students and staff is a top priority. In response to this incident the principal has moved to an e-learning environment for Friday.”
Charges have not yet been filed, so WBBM will not be identifying the teacher at this time.
