CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Nearly 1,500 families pre-registered for an Easter Basket giveaway in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood Saturday.
"I love this-y'all doing for the kids," said one happy parent at the giveaway. "I love everything y'all doing for the community."
The parent was expressing her appreciation to the Englewood First Responders Organization as her daughter entered a classroom on the second floor of an old school building on Marquette Road, just west of South Halstead Street that is now called Shepherd's Hope Community Center.
The organization, which provides youth mentoring, sponsored the event for children.
"When the kids come, we just want to put a smile on their face, so we just let everybody get an Easter basket and make the day joyful," said Angela Branch of the Englewood First Responders Organization.
