CHARLESTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Faculty and staff at Eastern Illinois University have decided to suspend their strike and go back to work.
A statement from the University Professionals of Illinois said members discussed what the union termed "the administration's last, best and final offer," and, while the bargaining team could not endorse the offer, it was decided that the six-day strike would be suspended and members would decide whether to accept it.
The union president at Eastern, Jennifer Stringfellow, said, "This line in the sand that they have drawn is the reality," said Jennifer Stringfellow, union president at Eastern.
Faculty and staff remain on strike at Chicago State and Governor's State, and Northeastern Illinois University could be next. The issues are primarily compensation and work load.
