(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — After one year of bargaining, faculty at Eastern Illinois University plan to deliver a letter Monday announcing their intent to strike.
University Professionals of Illinois at EIU have been working without a contract since September 2022. The union, which represents about 450 professors, advisors and other faculty in Charleston, voted earlier this month to authorize a strike.
Officials said a strike could happen as soon as April 6, after talks stalled over pay and workload.
Prior to delivering its letter to EIU President David Glassman at noon, the union plans to hold a rally. Union faculty are also expected to hold a teach-in on Tuesday to let students know what this will mean for them.
Faculty at Chicago State University are also at an impasse with their administration. They could walk out on April 3.
