CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A fight involving gunfire brought Chicago police running to Eataly, but now authorities now say they will not file charges in the case.
It happened Friday morning, just before 9:30 a.m. A fight broke out hours after the Italian marketplace and restaurant opened.
Police said the shooter was a 35-year-old disgruntled employee who had just left a planned human resources meeting.
He was not fired, but he was not scheduled to work either, according to the police report, which said a security guard spotted him outside smoking a cigarette while he talked on the phone, "complaining about the meeting."
That's when police said the 35-year-old suspect made his way to the second-floor bakery prep area and confronted two men who are also bakers.
The fight got physical, finally leading the man to fire his gun. But, the bullets didn't hit anyone, and the two co-workers took his weapon and ran off before police could arrive.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that the disgruntled baker won't be facing charges, and, while he did have a valid firearm owner's identification (FOID) card, he did not have a concealed carry license.
None of the participants in the brawl or witnesses could be reached for comment.
