CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) —The Universe will put on a show for early-risers in the coming weeks with a partial lunar eclipse that will be visible from the Chicago area next Wednesday morning.
The eclipse will be visible in the southwest sky at 4:44 a.m.
Michelle Nichols of the Adler Planetarium explains what it will look like:
"The moon normally looks a whiteish, grayish color. You'll know the eclipse is happening because you'll see a little tiny bit of shadow on the moon and that shadow segment will get bigger and bigger," Nichols said.
The partial lunar eclipse will be followed by a partial solar eclipse during sunrise on June 10.
"When the sun rises, it will look like a quarter of it will be covered by the moon, and you'll see this dark part of a circle over the disc of the sun," Nichols said.
If you want to see the solar eclipse, she adds, you'll have to view it through special glasses.
