CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Auto Show has come and gone, so a group of kids in the El Valor Early Childhood Education program put on one of their own.
The school, located at 19th and Damen, held their sixth annual auto show.
“It’s something that our teaching staff actually started when we had children that went to the auto show, and they were talking to their classmates and they were really excited, but not everyone could afford to go,” said Executive Director Jillian Gonzalez.
The kids worked with their parents, building and decorating cars made of cardboard. They had shoulder straps, and the kids had a caravan through the hallways. Parents and staff were spectators.
There were Barbie cars, police cars, a taco truck and even a dinosaur car.
“Tell me about your car, Logan.”
“My car’s red,” Logan, one of the students, excitedly revealed.
His car received a pretend ticket.
Michael Galan and son Gabriel made a blue Jeep with headlights.
Michael told WBBM he probably got more enjoyment out of making the car than his son did.
Some of the dads were a little competitive. The kids were too.
About 4,000 kids at various El Valor locations took part.
