ANTIOCH (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An elderly man faces murder charges after he allegedly shot and killed his neighbor while arguing over a leaf blower.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office said two weeks ago, on April 12, 79-year-old Ettore Lacchei entered the yard of his next door neighbor, William Martys, at the 40700 block of North Black Oak Avenue, began arguing with him and then shot him in the head. The 59-year-old Martys was using his leaf blower when Lacchei approached him. Authorities said Lacchei had several prior grievances with Martys.

Detectives found the gun likely used in the murder near Lacchei’s property line.

On Tuesday, Lake County Sheriff officers conducted a search warrant and arrested Lacchei at his home without incident.

The Lake County State’s Attorney has charged Lacchei with two counts of first-degree murder.

Lacchei is being held at the Lake County Jail while he awaits an initial court hearing.
