(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Newly released documents and body camera video from an incident in Will County last year, in which two men died, appear to provide some clarity but raise some questions.

It was November 6 of last year, when Will County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a home in Joliet Township for what was reported as an altercation between 70-year-old Eldred Wells and his 21-year-old grandson, Jabbar Muhammad.

The Deputies fired when, they said, Muhammad lunged at his grandfather, stabbing him in the neck.

The Joliet Herald News reported, body camera video shows that about 16 shots were fired by the deputies. Both men died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Initial reports from the sheriff’s office did not mention that the grandfather had been shot, only stabbed.

The coroner’s findings were later revealed in response to a Freedom of Information request. The deputies involved were cleared of wrongdoing by the State’s Attorney’ Office.

The family has filed two wrongful death lawsuits.
