CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - It’s Election Day in Chicago, the final day to cast ballots in races for mayor, alderman and the police district councils.
Nearly 245,000 Chicagoans cast their ballots early in this election, by mail and in-person. That’s 79,500 more early votes than four years ago.
Chicago Election Board Chair Marisel Hernandez said elections for mayor and alderman could be real tight, and that it could come down to the more than 100,000 mail-in ballots that have not yet been returned.
“This election, we have had over 213,000 vote by mail applications, the highest for any municipal election and the second highest in our city’s history which was in November 2020,” Hernandez said.
It’s very possible we may not know tonight who will wind up in any mayoral or aldermanic run-off election, Hernandez noted.
Voters have until 7 o'clock tonight to cast their ballots.
You can turn in your vote-by-mail ballots at drop boxes located at the early voting sites in the wards at 69 W. Washington, at the Election Supersite at Clark and Lake or at Wrigley Field, the United Center or the Wintrust Arena.
If you choose to mail it, Hernandez suggested taking it directly to the post office and asking to have the ballot postmarked today.
