ELGIN, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Elgin Police are explaining why only a few residents were warned about a man outdoors threatening people with a knife.
Elgin Police shut down a section of Willard Road on Wednesday, in response to a man threatening several people outside his residence with a knife.
The Daily Herald reports it became a barricaded incident, and after more than seven hours, police took the man into custody.
On her weekly radio show Friday, Elgin Police Chief Ana Lalley explained that Police urged residents to stay out of the area through a Facebook post, but did not send out a larger community alert as it would if there was an active shooter case, because the suspect was in a secured, isolated area and posed no greater threat to the wider community.
