(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Multiple people were arrested Friday after a wild police chase in the western suburbs, in which a driver — traveling with five children in their SUV — crashed into several vehicles.
Elmhurst police said it happened just before 3 p.m. while the driver of a GMC Acadia led Oak Brook and Villa Park police on a chase. As the Acadia driver allegedly traveled through the intersection of Saint Charles Road and Illinois Route 83, they sideswiped a school bus.
Only the driver was inside of the school bus at the time of the crash. At that point, no injuries were reported, but police said the GMC then hit two more vehicles on Saint Charles Road.
The GMC came to a stop after hitting the various vehicles, and police said they immediately arrested one adult man and one adult woman. Ten people were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.
Elmhurst police said York High School to be placed on a brief lockdown due to its proximity to the scene of the crashes. Saint Charles Road was also closed between Spring and York Roads until approximately 4:15 p.m. while crash investigations took place.
The Oak Brook Police Department took the suspects involved in the pursuit into custody.
