(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The head of the area's major job-development agency says employers will have to re-think the workplace as the region recovers from the coronavirus pandemic.

Karin Norington-Reaves, CEO of the Chicago-Cook Workforce Partnership, says COVID-19 changed the employment landscape, but the recovery is an opportunity for companies to take advantage of what they've learned.

A big example: Not every worker needs to be at the office.

Companies should show flexibility by allowing employees to continue working remotely, now that's it's been proven to be a viable option.

What about people who don't have good computers or reliable high-speed Internet access? Companies need to respond to that, too, and ensure workers have the right tools and resources, Norington-Reaves says.

The issue of the so-called digital divide must be addresses by society as a whole, she said.

Norington-Reaves is the guest on this weekend's "At Issue," which runs 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m.
