(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Legislation requiring Illinois employers to disclose salary ranges as they seek job applicants is moving toward final passage.

The proposed legislation would require the pay range at the front of the job-application process, rather than letting applicants know after they have sought the job.

“When people understand what the compensation and benefit package is, and has a clear understanding, it helps people make quicker decisions,” sponsoring state Sen. Cristina Pacione-Zayas, D-Chicago, said.

She said the measure would be good for employers, too, because it would weed out people who have no interest in a job because of its pay and benefits.

Talks continue with businesses groups to tweak the final language, the lawmaker said.

A similar bill has already passed the Illinois House. Sen. Pacione-Zayas says there could be votes in committee and the full senate next week.
