(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- For generations of families, a farmstand near Lincolnshire became part of their summer and fall traditions. Now, the owners have announced they're retiring and the stand is closed for good.
The owners of Didier Farms say they want to spend more time with their children and grandchildren, and do some of the things they haven't had time for.
That's why they've reportedly decided to close their farmstand that was known for its yearly "Pumpkinfest," as well as selling fresh produce, flowers and donuts.
Greg Koeppen of the Lake County Farm Bureau says a unique treasure has disappeared.
“The landscape has changed here in the county, and we’ve become more urban,” he said. “They’ve allowed that rural flair to still exist in that suburban area, that little pocket that they farm in down there. So, it is a bittersweet time.”
Koeppen says the farmstand gave local residents, as well as people who traveled from across the Chicago-area, Wisconsin and beyond, a unique opportunity to experience farm life. Visitors were able to get a better understanding of where our food comes from, he said.
