Conservation police found an alligator, two snapping turtles and other animals during an animal cruelty investigation at a Chicago home this week.

The American alligator, alligator snap turtles and an African bullfrog were all dead when Illinois Conservation officers found them inside the garage of a Chicago home.

The Department says the officers were responding to a welfare check at the home that had feces and garbage throughout. There, they found five malnourished "Bully" breed dogs as well. Chicago Animal Care and Control is helping with the investigation.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources requires a special permit for owning animals that are considered endangered in the state such as alligator snapping turtles since they require special knowledge and care.
