CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — An assessment of a proposed migrant camp site in Morgan Park has found environmental issues.
The consultant’s report found a 275-gallon fuel oil tank, which was put underground at the site near 115th and Halsted Streets 70 years ago, may still be there.
An additional environmental concern stemmed from signs that a dry cleaning business, which was previously located on the six-acre site, may have released chemicals into the soil and groundwater.
Last week, the City of Chicago halted plans to use the site to house upwards of 1,400 migrants temporarily at the site.
Gov. J.B. Pritzker cited similar concerns in halting a tent camp in Brighton Park earlier this month.
