EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There are extra police patrols in Evanston today after three shootings in less than 24 hours.
"Obviously, this is a horrifying situation," Evanston Mayor Daniel Biss said Wednesday, reacting to the three separate shootings that left four men wounded.
The first shooting was Monday night near Dempster and Dewey, then Tuesday afternoon in the same area followed by a third roughly a half-hour later near Church and Dodge, near the high school.
The mayor told WBBM the police department and the city are stepping up.
"[There's a] very intense investigation of what has occurred as well as proactive activity to make sure that the neighborhood, particularly around Dempster and Dodge, is safe, it doesn't escalate, there's no retaliation," said Biss.
The mayor called the violence normal and not acceptable.
Police have not shared many details at this point in their investigation about who was responsible. No one is in custody.
