(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Evanston Land Use Commission voted overwhelmingly Wednesday night to recommend that the City Council reject a proposal to allow cannabis smoking lounges.
The vote was eight to zero to reject the idea of pot smoking lounges.
This move comes after three of five city council members on the Human Services Committee recommended the idea move forward.
They include Alderman Devon Reid.
This is not necessarily the last word on the subject. The commission’s decision is advisory.
There is one potential applicant who’d like to open a dispensary and smoking lounge. Nobody at the meeting spoke in favor of the proposed zoning change.
Land Use Commission Chairman Matt Rogers said, “The city is ahead of itself, and this is a solution in search of a problem.”
